ISSUES: Life Without Parole (LWP)

Japan currently does not have a sentence of Life Without Parole. Apart from death, the strictest sentence is life imprisonment which in recent years has increased to a frightening 30+ years. Should LWP be instituted? To replace the death penalty, most would say yes. As an addition to the present criminal code, the Japan Bar says "No."
